Considering making the switch to metal roofing? My Parramatta sat down with Matt Zammit from MZ Roof Logic to talk about metal roofing, bust some myths, and find out what to really look for when you’re comparing quotes.

Why Are More and More Homeowners Moving to Metal Roofing?

In short, reliability. A good steel roof handles heat, rain, and hail … whatever Sydney’s weather can throw at it. It’s light, it won’t warp or attract pests, and when it’s been installed right, it’ll protect your home for decades. Most people also like the clean lines and the range of colours. It gives houses a lovely look.

What Metal Roofing Myths Do You Hear All the Time?

The most common one is “It’s noisy in the rain.” Maybe that was true years ago, but not with a modern install. We use insulation and sarking that deaden sound, meaning it’s no louder than any other roof.

Another one is “all metal roofs are the same.” They’re definitely not! The profile, coatings, fixings, and flashing work make a real difference to performance and longevity.

How Do You Help Clients Choose the Right Colours and Profiles?

We take a step back, and look at the home … considering its age, its style, the streetscape, and the light around the property. Let’s face it, a heritage house in the Inner West needs something totally different to a coastal home on the Northern Beaches.

Sometimes a matte finish suits best. Other times, a classic profile is the right call. The aim is a roof that looks right and performs well.

What Are Common Mistakes When Comparing Quotes for Metal Roofing?

Looking at the price and thinking of nothing else … that’s the big one. The important questions to ask are concerning what you’re getting for that money.

Ask what brand of steel will be used, what thickness, what underlay, how the flashings will be detailed, and what’s covered in the warranty. A thin sheet with basic fixings might look incredible on day one, but it’s not going to last like a proper system.

What Should a Homeowner Expect From a Roof Replacement Job?

A clear plan, safe site setup, and a tidy finish. We remove the old roof, check the structure, install sarking, lay and fix the new sheets, then finish the flashings and gutters. We keep the site clean and keep you updated as we go. Simple things, but it can make all the difference.
